The Geretsrieder Adamek siblings have a lot in common.

Among other things, they both play volleyball successfully - Veronika for third division TSV Unterhaching, Tobias for VSG Isar-Loisach.

  • Veronika Adamek rose to the 3rd division with the volleyball players of TSV Unterhaching.

  • Tobias Adamek came from football to volleyball as a career changer.

  • The Geretsrieder siblings are particularly happy when they can take part in a tournament together in a mixed team.

Geretsried

- A blind understanding of one another is almost indispensable for volleyball players.

Trained automatisms and individual strengths of movement shake hands on the field.

“A soccer team is as strong as its best player, a volleyball team as good as the weakest player,” says Tobias Adamek.

It is no secret who the 29-year-old Geretsrieder prefers to be on the field with: “When we from the VSG Isar-Loisach take part in a mixed tournament and my sister plays along.

It's really fun. ”It is no coincidence that Veronika Adamek (30), married Kircher, sees it the same way:“ We just get along very well.

Although we are a year and a half apart, I sometimes even have the feeling that we are twins. "

In the beginning there were equestrian sports, soccer and athletics

However, it took a few years for the siblings from Geretsried to find a common favorite sport.

Veronika began with athletics and equestrian sports, especially since mother Christa was active here.

At the age of twelve she started playing volleyball at TuS.

“However, there was no girls' team back then.

That was only launched a few years later when my father took over the training, ”reports Veronika.

Rainer Adamek, himself a successful volleyball player in Starnberg and Geretsried, taught the juniors the basics and all the tricks.

Word quickly got around that this was fun, so the squad grew steadily.

The team celebrated some successes and also switched to the adult sector together.

“I have played volleyball continuously since I was 14 and never missed a single season,” says Veronika.

When the TuS women then merged with SV Münsing, it even worked with two promotions up to the district league.

The middle attacker, however, had greater sporting ambitions and moved to Black and White Munich in the Bayern League for a year.

After a year he returned to Geretsried, where the TuS, Münsing and the BCF Wolfratshausen had come together to form the VSG Isar-Loisach.

There Veronika also met her brother, who had previously taken a sporty detour.

"All my friends were at football, so I started with it," reports Tobias, who played football at FF Geretsried and TSV Königsdorf as a child and also played tennis.

When a youth team was founded at VSG, Geretsrieder changed the sport without further ado: “I had played soccer together with Torsten Busch.

I knew Dominik Hölzl, Fabian Liemer and Markus Meinl from school. “I already knew roughly how volleyball works,” jokes Tobias.

However, with the help of trainer Bernhard Wilhelm and many extra shifts with his father Rainer (“There were only three of us in the hall”), he learned the basic techniques.

“You learn that relatively quickly at a young age.

And anyway, there are a lot of lateral joins in volleyball, especially with the boys, because there are few children's teams. "

Injuries affect Tobias' career

With the men of the VSG, Tobias first managed as an outside attacker ("I was put down by the trainer") into the district class.

This was followed by winning the district cup twice in the southern district and jumping into the district league.

“It was just a very homogeneous team,” analyzes Tobias, who has since worked as a coach for the women's team.

He himself did not get off scot-free over the years: "I had problems with my shoulders and knees, and there was also a herniated disc." The fact that volleyball ran on the back burner this year due to corona was beneficial for his recovery.

In the year of the rise in the district league, the VSG had two reasons to celebrate, because the women also made this leap.

“In terms of mood, that was the best season,” recalls Veronika.

During this phase, the solidarity arose that characterizes the volleyball community across all teams: “My brother and I were also significantly involved in this.” And the ties have also been strengthened through many mixed tournaments at home and abroad.

The middle blocker, on the other hand, made another career leap.

With TSV Unterhaching, you got two promotions in a row, namely from the Bayern over the regional league to the 3rd league.

“That was a really cool thing,” says Veronika with justified pride.

She was often accompanied and supported by her brother.

“My teammates have always asked whether Tobi will be back for the next home game.

Because he always created a good atmosphere in the stands, ”said the delighted Geretsriederin.

Veronika rises to the 3rd division with Unterhaching

After the games there was usually an analysis.

“Tobi knows a lot about rules, technology and training and also sees many things more carefully.

It's different for me - when the game is over, I'll have already ticked it, ”said Veronika.

The brother, who works as a designer of DF antennas at airports, is of course proud of his sister, who is a primary school teacher by profession: “It's nice to see when she is so successful in sport.

And she is clearly the better volleyball player. "

At the moment, however, in standby mode, because not only is amateur sport currently suspended - she and her husband Matthias are expecting their first child shortly.

“I don't know how things will go on after that.

But I would love to play volleyball again, ”said Veronika.

It has not yet been decided, but it is quite possible that she will be hired by the VSG again.

Of course, Tobias also hopes that he and his teammates can be back online soon.

"Maybe we can finally get out of our promotion queue," jokes the 29-year-old.

The VSG men have already made three attempts towards the regional league, but either they failed in the relegation or it was canceled.

There are still a few examples of the fact that the Adamek siblings tick very similarly.

“Tobi always wears the jersey with the number six, just like our father used to be.

And my shirt number is the four my mother always had, ”says Veronika.

And not only that Tobias' girlfriend Dina is the setter of the Unterhachinger women and Veronika's husband often goes to golf with his brother-in-law - the circle of friends is almost identical.

"Including a lot of volleyball players," says the brother.

And recently he has been seeing his sister in person almost every day: The siblings have been living with their parents on the family property in Geretsried, where three row houses were built, since the summer.
