Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas this evening (Friday) signed a presidential order for the Palestinian Authority presidential election as well as the Palestinian parliament and the Palestinian National Council.

According to the order, the elections will be held on two different dates.

To the Palestinian Parliament on May 22 and the presidential election will be held on July 31 this year and will be held simultaneously in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Palestinian media reported that representatives of the Palestinian Authority's movements and parties would meet to coordinate the conduct of the elections.

The presidential order for the election was published after a meeting held tonight in Ramallah between Abu Mazen and the chairman of the Central Election Committee of the Palestinian Authority, Hanna Nasser, according to which the elections to the Legislative Council and the presidency will also be held in East Jerusalem.

It should be noted that since 2006 no elections have been held for the Palestinian Authority, despite various announcements and orders issued, and it is inevitable that this time, too, there will be those who will work to dissolve the possibility of democratic elections in the Palestinian Authority. Fatah movement.

A year later, Hamas exercised its rule and carried out a violent coup in the Gaza Strip while forcibly expelling Palestinian Authority and Fatah members and their families from the Gaza Strip.

As you may recall, in 2018, Abu Mazen dissolved parliament.

The last time a PA presidential election was held was on January 9, 2005, following a presidential decree issued in November 2004, a few days after Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat was pronounced dead at a Paris hospital.
