Washington keeps closing.

A few days before the inauguration of the new President Joe Biden, security precautions are being pushed ahead in the US capital.

Vice President Mike Pence was informed of the current situation at a briefing from Homeland Security.

Mike Pence, US Vice President:

“We want the American people to be confident that we will have a safe inauguration.

That President-elect Joe Biden and Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris be sworn in as the new President and Vice President of the United States in a manner that is consistent with our history, with our traditions, in a manner that does honor to the American people and the United States . "

The FBI warns of riots around the swearing-in on Wednesday.

There are signs of such actions on the Internet - including calls for armed protests.

Christopher Wray, FBI Director:

“We are concerned about possible violence during the numerous protests and rallies planned for the coming days here in DC and at the state Capitol buildings across the country.

These could bring armed people into the vicinity of government buildings and officials. "

At the same time, the secret services are working to come to terms with the storm on the Capitol.

According to the FBI chief, more than 100 people have been arrested in the past week.

Christopher Wray, FBI Director:

“We are looking for people who may be eager to repeat the violence we witnessed last week.

As of January 6th, we have identified over 200 suspects.

So we know who you are!

When you're out there, FBI agents will come and find you! "

Since the violent assault on the Capitol, the National Guard in Washington has been on duty all the time.

Around 7,000 soldiers work 12-hour shifts, mainly to protect the congress headquarters.

According to the head of the force, it could be up to 21,000.

Mike Pence personally thanked the forces at the Capitol after the security meeting.

Mike Pence, US Vice President:

“I encourage you to remain vigilant.

Respect the uniform chain of command!

Take care of your people!

We will deliver a safe inauguration to the American people.

We are going to swear in a new President and a new Vice President.

We're going to move our nation forward, okay?

Thank you all.

God bless you!"

In the coming days, the security precautions in Washington are likely to be tightened again.

Fences and barricades were recently erected around the Capitol, and even roads were closed.

An official state of emergency applies until January 24th.

There will not be an inauguration with hundreds of thousands of spectators as usual this time.
