Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi hoped to escape the wrath of Donald Trump's administration.
But five days from the end of his term, the outgoing US president is not surrendering.
It has just registered the world's third largest smartphone manufacturer on the list of “Chinese Communist Military Companies” of the US Department of Defense.
The brand is suspected of "
supporting the objectives of modernizing the People's Liberation Army and ensuring access to advanced technologies
".
Concretely, this means that the American president can now add Xiaomi to the (long) list of Chinese companies banned from staying in the United States and from access to American suppliers or investors.
