For the first time in the world, doctors at the French Hospital of Edouard Ayreu managed to implant the two arms and shoulders of an Icelandic man, during one operation.
"The double transplantation process took 15 hours and required the mobilization of a number of public and private medical and nursing teams," French media quoted the specialized Ospace Civil de Lyon Foundation as saying, confirming that the patient was in a stable condition this morning.
The Foundation considered this operation the first of its kind in the world, as previous arm implants did not include the shoulders.
Local media reports indicated that the arms of the 48-year-old patient were amputated when he was twenty-six after he was electrocuted on a high-tension line.
