Holzkirchen: Direct connection between two commercial areas?

The Holzkirchen CSU parliamentary group is dreaming of a connection between the east and north industrial areas.

However, the Greens consider such a road superfluous, and they reject a related expansion of the Föchingen industrial area.

Holzkirchen - The dead branch at the roundabout is reminiscent of a once lively plan: A few years ago, a road was planned at the Nordspange / Rudolf-Diesel-Ring roundabout in Holzkirchen, which would lead along the railway tracks in the direction of the then emerging industrial area Nord near Föching, to connect this directly to the old industrial area east.

"The connection was never decided and implemented," says Mayor Christoph Schmid (CSU).

Partly because at the beginning it was not known how great the demand would be in the spruce wood industrial area.

The development there has now been completed.

At least for now.

Still, the street is not completely dead.

“We haven't lost sight of the thought,” says Schmid.

Said street has recently popped up again in the local council.

CSU parliamentary group leader Sebastian Franz brought them into play when it came to the new local bus.

As reported, from autumn 2022 there will only be one line that runs from the Holzkirchen train station via the industrial area east and the B 318 to the industrial area north and back again.

Ulrike Küster (Greens) complained that the district of Föching was not approached.

This could change, Franz argued, if a road were built between the two industrial parks.

Companies have plans for growth

But not only that: According to the CSU, an important benefit of the road is the traffic relief of Föching, says Franz when asked.

That way you would get the trucks out of town.

Although the four-lane expansion of the B 318 has brought about an improvement, the route through Föching is still “a traditional road to the motorway”.

Schmid also sees “an opportunity for Föching” in the street.

And even if there are currently no concrete plans for this, he theoretically has a swap in mind: Initially, the new connection would be a municipal road, but it could possibly be upgraded as a district road and, in return, downgraded the Föchinger Kreisstraße to a municipal road.

The advantage: The municipality could implement internal measures such as Tempo 30 more easily.

“We could also rejuvenate the road structurally,” says Schmid.

In Schmid's eyes, the new route would only become really necessary if the north industrial area was expanded.

Nothing is currently planned here.

But the topic does not seem to be entirely closed.

Because Franz reports that some companies have expressed interest in further development.

“Despite Corona,” he says.

So that these do not migrate due to a lack of space - for example to the nearby Warngau industrial area Birkerfeld, which is to be expanded - solutions must be found.

And maybe think about filling the area “little by little”.

He considers a trade policy to be appropriate.

"People think we're crazy"

For the Greens, neither an extension of the industrial park nor the new road would be an option, explains deputy parliamentary group leader Robert Wiechmann.

Schmid's predecessor Olaf von Löwis (CSU) did not follow the road.

“Because there was no majority in the local council for it.” The Greens see “no objective reason for the connection” to this day.

In the meantime, there is a four-lane expansion of the B 318. “So the two industrial parks are already connected,” he says.

“If we were to build another road a few hundred meters further on, people would say we were crazy.” Even the few minutes saved on the local bus would not make up for it.

Wiechmann emphasizes that the Greens would not agree to an expansion of the north industrial area - in the direction of the railroad tracks there would still be capacity.

Mainly because of the consequences that the current industrial park already brings with it: The employees of the newly settled companies need living space, and more kindergarten and school places are needed.

Such a large house number as the industrial park - which, contrary to expectations, has grown rapidly - a community has to "digest" first.

It is also important to leave room for future generations.
