Encrypted messaging apps Signal and Telegram have witnessed a significant increase in the number of downloads from Apple and Google app stores, at a time when WhatsApp, owned by Facebook, is suffering a decline in its growth due to the privacy update it sent to users recently.
Sky News quoted the mobile application analytics company (Sensor Tower) as saying that Signal witnessed 17.8 million app downloads from Apple and Google platforms during the period from January 5 to 12, an increase of 61 times from the previous week, which witnessed 285 One thousand downloads, while the Telegram app saw 15.7 million downloads.
The company indicated that the WhatsApp application witnessed a decrease in the number of downloads to 10.6 million, from 12.7 million in the previous week.
And WhatsApp sent a notice to its users that they must agree to the new privacy policy for it before the 8th of next February, otherwise they will not be able to use it after this date, referring to the data that WhatsApp will share with Facebook, the parent company, which created a state of confusion for many users, which further complicated it. Facebook's history of privacy incidents is what forced WhatsApp to clarify its update to users.
