Kreuth says goodbye to the mountaineering bus.

In addition to Mayor Josef Bierschneider (CSU), only three municipal councilors wanted to keep the offer in a slimmed-down version.

Kreuth -

Only four votes for the mountaineering bus.

That was the sad, but (since last October) much discussed end of a service facility that the community of Kreuth had operated for three years as part of its mountaineering village concept and which had literally paid dearly.

It was the cost of around 70,000 euros per year in relation to the benefit that ultimately let the mountaineering bus fail in the most recent municipal council meeting.

Bus well received but too expensive

As a reminder: Although the district office had contributed 10,000 euros and the Austrian municipality of Achenkirch also contributed an amount in the four-digit range, the Kreuther municipal council had calculated that every passenger transport cost the municipality around 6.50 euros.

Above all, however, the councils complained that the Kreuther Bergsteigerbus was used less by mountaineering guests from the Kreuther districts than by day trippers from the Tegernsee train station and above all by passengers on the Tyrolean side.

Regionalverkehr Oberbayern GmbH (RVO) as the provider praised the service.

“The trips are well received.

The mountaineering bus, as it was developed in the Bergsteigerdorf working group, is a good offer, ”said the deputy RVO branch manager Peter Bartl during the November meeting of the local council (we reported).

"It not only provides the connection to Tyrol, but also closes a gap in the RVO timetable."

Valley communities are investing around 300,000 euros in buses, guest cards and senior citizens' tickets

Exactly this argument was the knockout argument for the majority of the municipal councils, since public transport is known to be the responsibility of the district and not the municipalities.

Markus Wrba (FWG) found clear words.

He thought the entire public transport system was no longer up to date and called the RVO a “monopoly who does nothing for his money”.

With the estimated 300,000 euros that the valley communities are investing in mountaineering buses, guest cards and senior citizens' tickets, much more can be achieved.

Alternative system in focus

In the past few months, the local council had desperately searched for solutions for a so-called on-demand system that would better connect Kreuth to the ring traffic and connect the districts of Kreuth and its mountaineers on demand.

At the meeting on Thursday, it was the Head of the Transport and Mobility Department, Peter Schiffmann, from the District Office who took a position on this issue, among other things.

He praised the collective call taxi (AST) as an innovative system that had only been neglected to continue.

On behalf of the local council, Schiffmann had also checked various on-demand systems - such as the "Omobi" in Murnau, the app-based "Isar Tiger", the on-call bus taxi in Fürstenfeldbruck and the "BAXI" in Tirschenreuth - and above all " BAXI ”as an eligible concept rated as good and“ cool ”.

"The 'Omobi' system would be too expensive," said the head of department.

Joining the MVV planned in 2022

But because Schiffmann announced that in 2022, when the entire Miesbach district joined the Münchner Tarif- und Verkehrsverbund (MVV), an on-call bus taxi system would also be available, and because Sebastian Marschall (FWG) brought up the current budget situation, spoke up the majority of the committee against the continuation of the mountaineering bus.

It no longer mattered that this would have been chargeable to passengers in the future.

Mayor Bierschneider regretted the decision.

He would have liked to see this mountaineering village service not interrupted in 2021.
