(CNN Spanish) - Argentina's
Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Roberto Salvarezza, confirmed this Saturday that the first case of the new British variant of coronavirus was detected in the country and that the health authorities were informed.
Through a statement, the minister indicated that he is an Argentine resident in the United Kingdom, with a history of traveling to Austria and Germany, who arrived in Argentina at the end of December from Frankfurt.

Upon arrival, a PCR test was performed, which subsequently confirmed the result of the new variant.
The authorities directed this person to remain in quarantine at his residence.
The inter-institutional Consortium for the Sequencing of the genome and genomic studies of SARS-COV-2, created by @ciencia_ar, detected the variant of SARS-CoV-2 from the United Kingdom in a traveler from abroad.
The health authorities have already been informed.
