Georges Serignac, 67, has been elected Grand Master of the Grand Orient de France (GODF), the main organization of Freemasonry in France announced on Saturday January 16.

This Val-d'Oise veterinarian, father of four children, was "
elected by 31 votes within the council of the order
" out of the 37 delegates of this body, the GODF announced in a press release.
Georges Serignac succeeds Jean-Philippe Hubsch, elected in August 2019 and whose mandate, which should have ended last summer, had been extended pending the organization of this assembly, disrupted by the health crisis.
With around 50,000 members and 1,500 lodges, the Grand Orient de France, with a sensitivity generally classified to the left, is the largest French Masonic obedience.
Its Grand Master is one of the few visible personalities of this organization, whose members are not supposed to reveal their affiliation.
Freemasonry has been established in France since 1773.
