Law enforcement agencies in the United States are preparing for marches to be held by Trump supporters in all 50 capitals of the various states.

Police forces set up checkpoints and National Guard forces were deployed to prevent a violent attack like the one that shook the world on 6 January.

The FBI has warned local police of possible demonstrations in each of the Capitol complexes in the various countries from January 16, until the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden on January 20.

National Guard forces were stationed in Michigan, Virginia, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C., while Texas took the step of closing its Capitol compound from today until the day of the inauguration.

Steve McCrow, director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, said Friday that intelligence indicated that "violent extremists may take advantage of armed protests planned in Austin to carry out criminal acts."

Capitol police today arrested a Virginia resident who was trying to infiltrate Biden's inauguration ceremony through a checkpoint in Washington with a fake certificate of approval to attend the event.

He was cute with a gun with more than 500 bullets.

The alert comes after a deadly attack by supporters of outgoing US President Donald Trump on Jan. 6 on the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington.

Most of the readiness is expected on Sunday, when members of the Buglow movement, a far-right militia calling for civil war, set up marches in the capital.

In Michigan, a fence was erected around the Capitol building in the capital city of Lansing, and forces were mobilized from across the state to strengthen security.

Despite heavy security, the Legislature has canceled scheduled meetings for the coming week, following fears of threats.

"We are prepared for the worst, but we hope that anyone who chooses to demonstrate in our Capitol will do so in peace," Michigan Police Chief Joe Gasper said at a news conference.

The notion that the January 6 uprising was successful may encourage extremists to try to hold more violent incidents.

The intelligence bulletin produced by the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security and the National Center for the War on Terror, warned that "false narratives" about election fraud are likely to continue to serve as a catalyst for violence for extremist groups.

Experts say the capitals of swing states like Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Arizona are among those most at risk for violence.

However, even countries that are not seen as crucial points in the last election take precautions.

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker said over the weekend that although his state had not received specific threats, he had stepped up security around the Capitol in the Springfield capital, including about 250 National Guard troops.

Susan Spolding, who served as secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, said exposing such security measures could be a deterrent.

"One of the ways to calm the situation is with strong security stabilization," said Spolding, now a senior consultant at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

"It's deterring people from acting violently."

In recent days several militias and other groups have told their followers to stay home, noting the increased security and risk that the planned events pose.

In contrast, Michael Hayden of the Legal Center for the Poor South in the United States said he is not so concerned about the potential for violence.

He noted that among other factors, what is perceived as censorship of conservative voices by tech companies like Twitter, is used to merge many right-wing extremists and Republicans.

“It provided a kind of unification between groups that had no contact with each other in the past,” Hayden said.
