On Thursday, an avalanche 150 meters wide went off on Brauneck - and buried a touring woman from the district.

With a view to the weather situation, the mountain rescue service is now warning of further departures.

  • There was an avalanche

    at

    Brauneck

    .

  • Two

    female ski tourers

    were buried.

  • The mountain rescue service warns of further avalanches.

Lenggries

- The two women were just climbing the

slope

above the

reservoir lake on Garland

when the avalanche was released at 11.50 a.m. directly below the edge of the slope at the summit.

Over a width of 150 meters, the masses of snow slide towards the ski tourers - and capture one of them.

They pull the woman with them and bury her under them.

Employees of the

Brauneck mountain railway

watch the accident from the gondola with which they were traveling down to the valley.

Immediately notify the

mountain rescue service at Brauneck.

One rescuer made his way to the buried victim, the other alerted his colleagues from the Lenggries and Tölzer mountain rescue teams, the dog squadron and the mountain rescue doctors.

But it quickly becomes clear that the large-scale operation can be called off: "The women were very lucky," says Rolf Frasch from the rescue service of the Lenggries mountain rescue service on Brauneck.

“The victim was able to free herself on her own.

The other woman only got in with her foot. "

Avalanche broke off below the edge of the slope at the summit

According to Frasch, the fact that it ended so lightly was also due to the fact that the female tourers were still down on the slope.

Most of the snow had remained on the slope, the women had only reached the foothills of the avalanche.

At least they were still strong enough to push one of the women along.

Last but not least, after only two days of snowfall, the total snow depth on the Brauneck at 80 centimeters is not too powerful, as Frasch explains.

The ski tourers did not have avalanche equipment with them.

“You didn't expect an avalanche in this area,” says Frasch.

Warning: "The avalanche situation is currently very tense"

Together with the police, he examined the trailing edge and created a snow profile.

He forwarded this to the avalanche warning center in Munich.

There it will be included in the management report.

Frasch warns: “The avalanche situation is currently very tense.

It snowed two days in a row, plus a lot of wind.

The snowpack is also built up on bad old snow.

It works like a ball bearing. ”You have to be very careful.

“We have avalanche warning level three.

You can only ride really safely on the Munich Olympic Mountain. "

So far, the mountain railway on Brauneck has not blown up as usual due to the idle lift operation.

That is changing now.

In the night of Friday there will be blasting, as Frasch says.

On the one hand, because they hope to be able to start skiing in the spring and thus prevent spring avalanches.

“In addition, you don't want to expose the mountain rescue staff, who are on site, to any danger.” The two tourers, who live in the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district, were able to recover from the shock at the mountain rescue station - and then drove on theirs Ski back to the safe valley.
