The health department is following a clear line: after the residents and the nursing staff, appointments for people over 80 will start on January 20.

Education should take place on site in the communities.

District

- These types of calls have not only been received directly by the Tagblatt in the past few days and weeks: A daughter is "horrified" by the events in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district.

Her in-laws, 91 and 95 years old, live in Grainau and do not get an appointment for vaccinations.

“You are afraid of being infected, you don't go out of the house,” the woman emphasizes.

Several times they had sought contact with the health department.

Much had been said about pre-existing illnesses and other things, in the end they got a Facebook link sent - which they of course couldn't do anything with.

1.5 percent of the population in the district already vaccinated - Bavaria average is 1.28 percent

There are always drastic descriptions of fates.

But: Do those responsible in the region really deserve to be portrayed in such a negative way?

In the Corona early and high phase, the district had always been considered exemplary.

"A clear no", gives Stephan Scharf, spokesman for the district office, in response.

Now you could say: of course, he's one of the officials.

Only: He also supports his statement with numbers.

More than 1300 people between Staffelsee and Karwendel have already been vaccinated.

Around 1.5 percent of the district's population of around 88,000 people.

Scharf: "This puts us above the Bavaria-wide quota of 1.28 percent." The Robert Koch Institute has recently published statistics on vaccination.

The district is on a clear course.

There is a fixed order within the highest priority category: First the residents of inpatient care facilities, then the staff in those homes and the Covid wards in the clinics, then the over-80s who still live in their own apartment.

It is therefore clear that it will take a certain amount of time before the last group's turn comes.

Because of the very poor availability of the vaccine so far.

In principle, the district only received the preparation from Biontech / Pfizer for inoculation, the most recently approved from Moderna not.

"We also don't know when we will get something from it," clarifies Scharf.

Appointments for citizens over 80 should start on January 20th

There is now more clarity on at least one other, very important question: the allocation of vaccination appointments.

This should start on January 20th.

"Probably", Scharf sends immediately afterwards.

Because success still depends on the software of the Free State of Bavaria.

"It hasn't worked 100 percent so far," notes Scharf, "but that's not our construction site."

In the background, those responsible in the region are already working on a plan B.

Appointments are one thing, the actual vaccination is another.

January 26th has been going around for a week.

And it should remain realistic.

“Our goal is to start in the last week of January,” confirms Scharf.

How many people - that in turn depends on the availability of the vaccine.

Education by general practitioners in all district communities

In the meantime, the issue of education has turned out to be a major hurdle.

Those to be vaccinated are entitled to it.

There is now a new approach in this regard.

In cooperation with the family doctors, there will be appointments in all municipalities from next week.

“The municipalities make rooms available, a doctor speaks to the elderly on site.” This appointment does not replace a final conversation with a doctor before the actual vaccination.

"But it should relieve the doctors in the vaccination center and shorten the discussions there," emphasizes Dr.

Kristina Ott, the general practitioner coordinator.

That center at the Alpspitz wave pool in Garmisch-Partenkirchen will be considerably enlarged again in the coming week.

Scharf: "We will expand the waiting area for follow-up observation and, in view of the temperatures, we want to avoid many people having to wait outside."
