One month after the death of Isaac Sus, the boy run over in Flores: 'Every day is worse, every day he is missed more'

"It is not an accident, it is a murder," says Débora, sister of "Zakito," who at age 4 was hit by the car that Ricardo Papadopulos was driving, on December 17.

For days, Débora Inés Juarez Agosti and her sister Carla put their family's lives in cardboard boxes.

They kept documents, clothes, photos, toys, books and pots.

They emptied the refrigerator and defrosted the freezer.

Mattresses were moved.

They decided what to throw away and what to donate.

They ordered but, above all, they tried to

erase the trail of Isaac Sus

, his four-year-old younger brother.

At the request of his mother, who from a hospital bed told them

"it would destroy me to come back and let all his things be," they

discarded all the objects that survived Isaac: his drawings, his T-shirts, his dolls.

But they couldn't get rid of everything.

Débora decided to keep a craft that Isaac had made in kindergarten and his sister, with some toys.

"

The house is a constant memory.

Everywhere there are photos of him. Facing this is something that I do not wish on anyone," says Débora, by cell phone, from the terrace of the house.

She chose that corner to speak calmly, so as not to have interruptions, perhaps also so as not to be heard.

Below are his three brothers and his father.

In each environment there are packages and boxes.

Everything is ready for a speedy move.

"Every day is worse.

Every day he misses him more.

This week my dad was taking apart some furniture. He started and immediately began to cry because Isaac always helped him: he passed him the tools, he played with the pieces, he was a very curious baby ".

Débora tells how the pain for the murder of Isaac, run over by Ricardo Papadopulos, grows day by day.

Between Deborah and Isaac there were 18 years of difference.

She is the oldest, she is 22. She is followed by Carla, 20, Alexia, 14, Ezequiel, 9 and before Isaac, 4. The person who Débora and Carla call "dad" is not her biological father, but he is the man who raised them and they feel their own.

For him, who today is unable to read his surroundings without

the suffocating pain of the murder of his son

, and for his mother, who suffers from post-traumatic stress and has been hospitalized for almost a month, Débora became the whole woman.

On the evening of December 17, 2020, at the Sus house, dinner was delayed.

Shortly before 11 pm, the table was already set and the Hanukkah candles lit.

But before the family sat down to eat, someone noticed that soda was lacking.

Débora Inés Agosti - mother and daughter share almost the same name - went out with Isaac to buy a Coca Cola at a nearby store, which was still open at that time.

But one block from the house, as they crossed Directorate Avenue,

a white car passed over them

.

A footage from a security camera recorded the terrifying scene: mother and son

crossed the Directory with the traffic light enabled

, without starring in any infraction;

when they reached the middle of the avenue, she noticed that a speeding car was about to run over them and tried to pick up her son.

It was a desperate act in a context without time: in seconds,

the driver, who days later would be identified as Ricardo Papadopulos, rammed them

and Isaac died shortly after.

Débora Agosti and her son Isaac were run over on December 17 by Ricardo Papadopulos in Directory and San Pedrito, Flores.

They were crossing with a green light, the driver went through with a red light.

Débora's cell phone rang on Friday, December 18, 2020 at 0.18.

He remembers it because when he picked up the device he looked at the time on the screen.

It was a call from an unknown number.

He answered and a woman introduced herself and told her that she was calling her from the Piñero Hospital.

"I don't remember what name he told me but I know I repeated the name, as if to reprimand him. For the hour I thought it was a virtual kidnapping and I concentrated on listening and not giving data," Debora reconstructs.

On the other end of the line, the woman kept talking:

"Call your dad, it's urgent

.

"

Since she cut off, she called her father and he answered her, seconds passed.

But time was enough for her to think: "how strange", "what happened", "but if I saw mom this afternoon and last night I stayed to sleep at theirs".

"Zakito - that's what they called Isaac in an affectionate way - died!

Zakito died!

" His father shouted at him.

"I was listening to him in shock. At that moment for me he was confused. It couldn't be what he was telling me."

Isaac had blue eyes, inherited from his mother Débora Agosti.

Deborah was quick.

She asked a neighbor if she could take care of her seven-year-old daughter.

The answer was yes, so he grabbed his wallet and left Ramos Mejía, where he lives, to the hospital.

He also arranged for an acquaintance to go to the Flores family home to accompany his younger siblings.

In a hospital corridor, he

found his father collapsed

.

I've never seen him like this.

After asking what, how, where and when, Debora's mind contrasted that moment with a scene from the past, from June 4, 2016, when Isaac was born.

Two days before that date, she had turned 18, and as a gift she would accompany her mother during the delivery.

By then she was already a mother and knew what a birth entailed, but in this case the role would be to be a witness and deliver, with the permission of the doctors, the body of her brother to her mother.

So it was.

I knew

Isaac

from the first breath

.

After cleaning it, the nurses gave it to me and I took it to my mom.

When I left the room, my dad was waiting.

I remember that he came over crying with joy.

And all that so beautiful, that I counted with so much pride,

now it is a sad memory because I had to live the opposite

.

It is ironic".

Deborah was present at the delivery of Isaac.

"I knew him from his first breath," he says.

And he says that the memory of that moment is sad now, because he had to live the death of his brother.

Deborah recognized Isaac's body in the morgue.

He called his sister Carla, who was in Israel, to break the news.

He received her at the Ezeiza airport.

He took her to the Flores family home.

She witnessed the moment when a psychologist told her younger siblings what had happened.

He attended different media.

She stood in front of microphones, and surrounded by television cameras, serene, precise, said: “An accident is something that cannot be avoided.

This could have been prevented,

this is not an accident, it is murder

”.

From one moment to the next she stopped being the young woman who had her life with her daughter in Ramos Mejía and who was looking for work, after having lost it in the middle of the crisis that caused the pandemic, to being the whole woman who knows what it is a judicial cover, a prosecution and a preventive detention.

Débora took care to face the TV cameras to demand justice for her brother Isaac.

“Sometimes

in my head I hear him singing

.

He loved the song 'My blue dress' by Floricienta.

It was a program that we watched as girls with Carla and now they have shown it on TV again and he sang that song all the time.

I also sing for many years.

I always sang to all my brothers to make them sleep.

Now I don't want to sing.

That part of me died ”, she says and remains silent;

think and add: "or is asleep."

But immediately he returns to inhabit a space of discouragement: “I don't feel like anything.

I do not sleep.

I am in limbo.

Life passes me by.

I stay coherent and aware, but sometimes I think, What's going on?

What am I going to do next?

On December 23, a march was held to demand justice for Isaac.

Neighbors and other relatives of victims attended, such as Viviam Perrone, from Madres del Dolor.

This Sunday, January 17, it will be a month since Isaac's murder.

The way his family goes through this loss is a pain that is not seen, in a country where road accidents are the first external cause of death and the main cause of death of young people between 15 and 24 years old.

Families broken by a bite, by a driver who drives drunk, by a bus driver, truck driver or taxi driver who turns without looking, or by a bus driver who falls asleep at the wheel, accumulate.

The aftermath also: "My parents are destroyed. I am going to stand up and claim because I am not going to stop until this kid fulfills the sentence that corresponds to him. But

none of us knows what to do with this anguish

. It is a nightmare. My daughter starts crying about everything, when I ask her 'Are you sad about baby uncle?'

"That's how her daughter called Isaac." She says no. She doesn't want to admit she's sad. "

"This kid (for Papadopulos) has to think about this every day of his life, just as it happens to us because he ruined us. There is no other word. We are quiet people, we never screwed anyone, we did not deserve it," he tells Clarín Débora Agosti, Isaac's older sister and the voice that led the order Photo: Juan Manuel Foglia

It is the afternoon of Thursday, January 14, 2021.

Débora Inés Agosti has just been discharged

, after almost a month of hospitalization at the Piñero Hospital.

He is in a wheelchair.

Three days before, she was operated on for a fracture in her right leg, caused by Ricardo Papadopulos who, when hitting her head-on with his sports car, left her seriously injured and forced her to live with the perpetual pain of not having her youngest child .

Débora is inside a house that is not hers.

His older daughters hung garlands and added balloons to the space to welcome him.

The apartment is rented for one year.

Debora and her husband are Orthodox Jews.

As soon as they knew of the tragedy, the community to which they belong mobilized to raise money to help them and from there the funds for the rent came.

For Debora,

returning to the Flores house would have been even more traumatic

.

"The only thing my mother asked for are the plants. She watered and cared for them with Isaac and my little brothers. We still need to transplant them and take them away," says Débora, the daughter after moving.

He is on the street, he left his family in the apartment and returned to his house in Ramos Mejía to look for a document to be able to register his daughter in a summer colony.

He says he doesn't know where he will be in the next few hours, the next few days.

She lives on the move looking for a way to appease the impact her family suffered with her actions.

Pretrial detention for the person responsible for Isaac's death

At noon on Christmas, Ricardo Emanuel Papadopulos turned himself in at the building of the Homicide Division of the City Police, in Palermo.

Almost a month after the tragedy, Ricardo Emanuel Papadopulos, the person responsible for running over and killing a five-year-old boy in Flores and wounding his mother, was processed with preventive detention.

The young man, 21, is charged with the crime of

wrongful death

in an ideal contest with serious wrongful injuries.

The prosecution of Papadopulos with preventive detention was dictated on Tuesday, December 12, 2021 by Judge Edmundo Rabbione, in charge of the Criminal and Correctional Court No. 62. On the night of December 17, Papadopulos was driving a Volkswagen Golf without a license White GTI when he crossed the red light at Directory and San Pedrito and ran over and killed Isaac Sus.

He fled without helping the victims and left the car in a parking lot in Ciudadela.

The vehicle was in the name of his father, Rubén Papadopulos, who turned himself in at a police station two days later and said that it was not he who was driving but his son.

Finally, Ricardo Papadopulos surrendered on December 25, after being on the run for eight days, and has been in detention since then.

And so it will continue.
