At about 8 pm yesterday (January 16), the Yau Tsim Police District Special Duty Squad conducted an anti-drug operation. Three men were found suspicious in the lobby of a hotel in Yau Ma Tei and they were intercepted for investigation.
Police officers seized about one kilogram of marijuana on them, with a market value of about 230,000 yuan, and arrested two local men on suspicion of "drug trafficking."
Preliminary investigation revealed that the three people have triad background and are currently being detained for investigation; one of them is a wanted person who was wanted for another case earlier.
The police reiterated that drug trafficking is a serious crime. According to the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, Chapter 134 of the Laws of Hong Kong, the maximum penalty is a fine of HK$5 million and life imprisonment. The public should not try the law on their own.
