The U.S. Treasury Department recently announced the latest batch of sanctions lists involving six Chinese and Hong Kong officials, including Tan Yaozong, a member of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress.
He responded to the incident via social media today, saying that as a member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, he is duty-bound to support national law enforcement. He believes that the sanctions imposed by the US government are meaningless and he will not change his mind because of this.
He emphasized that he is working for the overall situation of Hong Kong and national security. Even if the sanctions are a little inconvenient, it does not matter. He emphasized that he has no assets and does not intend to go to the United States.
He also questioned why the US government should impose sanctions on Chinese personnel to perform their duties, criticizing this as a bullying behavior by the US government and condemning the relevant behavior.
