The Belarusian Ministry of Energy announced today that the first reactor in the Belarusian Electrode Plant has been disconnected from the electrical grid as part of its trial tests before it is operational.
The ministry said through its "Telegram" channel, and Russia Today reported that the separation of the reactor took place during its experimental work and testing of the reactor protection systems, explaining that the radiation level in the vicinity of the station is within its natural limits.
The Belarusian power plant is the largest joint economic project between Russia and Belarus, and the "Atom Stroy Export" company, a branch of the Russian state-owned Rosatom Corporation, is implementing the project.
The first reactor is expected to start industrially this year, followed by the second reactor in 2022.
