The sentence handed down today (Sunday) to Ronen Beatty, the father of singer Adi Beatty who was convicted of sexual offenses against girls aged 14-13, was received in the family of one of those victims with mixed feelings.

G.'s mother, a fan of singer Adi Beatty who was sexually assaulted by her father, described a sense of relief alongside missing out on his light punishment.

"We are in a sense of initial relief, our daughter has not slept well for several years but especially after the abuser received a sentence of nothing," the mother said, referring to the initial sentence received by Beatty for the prosecution's appeal against him in the district court.

"It's first of all a correction, in practice he got less than a month for each offense so it's a bit difficult, but our daughter has a sense of relief and so do we. I was told earlier that shame is for the good not for the bad," she added.

Beatty was originally sentenced to nine months of community service, which drew much criticism, including from girls who complained and their families.

After the prosecution filed an appeal last month, the court today sentenced him to 20 months in prison.

Beatty was convicted as part of a plea deal of committing indecent acts and sexually harassing the girls.

Attorneys Dana Pogatch and Inbar Kedar-Baruch, representing one of the girls, said following the sentencing that "virtual sex offenses have become a scourge, and their injury is no less severe than that of face-to-face assault, especially when it comes to childhood."

They added that even now "the punishment is not severe at all, given the harsh facts of the offenses committed by Beatty: seven girls were harmed, taking advantage of their admiration for his home, for a time, while Comet raises the offenses as one of the most sophisticated offenders."

But it was not only the families of the victims who were happy about the aggravation of the punishment, but also the women's organizations and victims of sexual assault welcomed the acceptance of the appeal.

Naamat chairman Hagit Peer praised the court's acceptance of the appeal and said that "there are judges in Jerusalem - this criminal's place is behind bars," Peer said. "This man used his house publicly in a vicious way and used his power to harm their bodies and souls. The

director general of the Authority for the Advancement of Women, Eva Madjibouz, also referred to the aggravation of Beatty's sentence and said: "In a reformed society there is no place for 'celebrity assumptions', the message that goes out to the complainants today is important and unequivocal - "Not to be afraid. Any case of harassment or sexual violence should be taken seriously. I urge anyone who has been harassed not to be afraid to complain."

The director of the Child Victim Support Center at the Child Welfare Council, Adv. Liron Eshel, said that "the court today looked at the victims and corrected the difficult message conveyed to the victims, to sex offenders, and to society as a whole with the mitigating sentence given by the Magistrate's Court.

The decision to aggravate the punishment and send behind bars the person who sexually assaulted a number of minors, on a number of occasions - is the right and obvious decision and we congratulate the court on that. "

"The court has an important role to play in conveying an unequivocal and clear message regarding the seriousness of sexual offenses against minors and the necessary and uncompromising punishment that should be imposed in such cases.

The prosecution said in response to the decision that Beatty "took advantage of the trust placed in him by the minors, his daughter's admirers, in order to commit various sexual offenses. His actions are serious, both due to the exploitation of exceptional power gaps between him and the minors," .

The case was handled by attorneys Natalie Hagai, Ben Assouline and Ofir Fahima of the Central District Attorney's Office, who added that the court's decision "is important and conveys a double message: First, a clear and dissuasive message to potential sex offenders who choose to commit sexual offenses in minors. "According to them, it is crucial for their cooperation with the law enforcement authorities in order to be able to enforce the law with the perpetrators of these offenses."

Beatty's lawyer and chairman of the Bar Association, Avi Chimi, said after the conviction: "It is complete and unfinished, it seems to me that the appellate court erred in its ruling.

The judgment of the Magistrates' Court was thoroughly reasoned and I would recommend that Mr Beatty file an appeal to the Supreme Court.

It is difficult to accept the results of the ruling. "
