The Natural Resources Directorate of the General Authority for the Management and Development of the Forests set a plan for afforestation of 340 hectares during the current season, a big increase over the last season’s plan, which amounted to 225 hectares.
The Director of Natural Resources at the Authority, Engineer Fayez Muhammad, explained to the SANA reporter that large quantities of forest plantings of conifers, broadleaf, cypress, laurel, eucalyptus and oak will be cultivated in addition to other types in the sites that have previously been exposed to fires, indicating that the afforestation work includes five sites in the Al-Ghab region, which is Shahat And the meadows of Annab, Al-Mashal, Ma'rin and Jourin.
Muhammad pointed out that the priority of the afforestation plan for this season is in the lands and forests that were affected by fires during last summer and the areas that were subjected to illegal cutting for the purpose of logging, indicating that the authority seeks to expand the area of vegetation in the Al-Ghab region because of its important role in improving the aesthetic appearance and purifying the air. And as a magnet for ecotourism.
The plan of artificial afforestation works in the Al-Ghab region begins in November of each year and ends in late March of the following year.
