A total of 22 people have been diagnosed at 26 Reclamation Street, Jordan

At 26 Reclamation Street, Jordan, which was required to undergo mandatory testing earlier, there were only 7 units in the building, but since the first case at the end of last month, a total of 22 people have been diagnosed.

In the "Temple Street Epidemic Area" yesterday and today, a total of 8 buildings were added to the mandatory inspection list within two days, bringing the total to 32 buildings.

A spokesman for the Buildings Department said that recently, officers have been sent to inspect No. 26 Reclamation Street and found that the drainage system of the building is defective.

Priority follow up on inspections of buildings in affected areas in Yau Ma Tei and Jordan

The Buildings Department also pointed out that the government implemented a 24-month measure through the second round of the "Epidemic Prevention and Anti-epidemic Fund" last year. The Department appointed a consulting company to proactively provide about 20,000 buildings in Hong Kong with 3 floors or more For domestic or mixed-use private buildings, inspect the drainage system of their external walls, and the implementation started in June last year.

As for No. 15-27A Pik Street, Pik Ho Building on Shanghai Street, and the compulsory inspection areas in Yau Ma Tei and Jordan, the eligible buildings have been included in the "Inspection Plan", and priority will be given to follow-up inspections of these buildings.

The fecal sewage shall not be discharged into the open bucket under any circumstances

According to the Buildings Department, according to the current Building (Sanitary Equipment Standards, Plumbing Installations, Drainage Works and Toilets) Regulations, open hoppers can only receive waste water discharged from sanitary equipment such as wash basins and bathtubs. The fecal sewage discharged from the toilet is generally not a way to spread the virus.

The Regulations also stipulate that fecal sewage shall not be discharged into an open water bucket under any circumstances.

The Buildings Department pointed out that for some buildings where the drainage pipes were connected incorrectly, for example, the waste pipes were not installed in accordance with the regulations to prevent the loss of water seals, and were directly connected to the defecation pipes. It has instructed the consulting company to inspect the target buildings. When the drainage system of the external wall is concerned, pay close attention to the situation and take follow-up actions according to the situation.

However, today’s "Hong Kong 01" was recorded at the scene when it was observed that there were criss-crossing pipes on the exterior walls of Jinbao Building and No. 45A Reclamation Street. The design of the pipes was similar to that of No. 20-26 Reclamation Street, which was also a "funnel". "Type" connection, some of the pipes are suspected to be overgrown with weeds due to leakage.

The Buildings Department emphasized that owners are responsible for regular inspection and maintenance of the drainage system of the building to ensure that the drainage system is intact.

If the owner has any questions about the condition of the drainage system of the building, he should consult a qualified professional or contractor.

If the tenant suspects that the drainage system of the unit is defective, such as the unit's drainage outlet or anti-siphon pipe has an odor, or the drainage pipe is leaking or cracked, they should contact the owner as soon as possible to arrange for qualified personnel or contractors to conduct inspection and repair.
