Firefighters and gendarmes began searching Sunday, January 17 afternoon after a snowfall in the Vosges mountains which could have taken "
one or two people
", announced the Haut-Rhin firefighters.
The casting took place in the middle of the afternoon at Hohneck, a summit of the Vosges located in the Haut-Rhin and which rises to a little over 1300 meters.
“
The emergency services are looking for one or two people,
” the firefighters said in a message, indicating that they were engaged alongside the Haut-Rhin mountain gendarmerie (PGM) platoon, based in Hohrod.
The authorities had called on people likely to go to the Vosges this weekend to be cautious after the heavy snowfall in recent days.
The Haut-Rhin prefecture had thus warned against "
the strong risk this weekend (...) of snowflows and avalanches on the steep slopes of the Vosges mountains
".
