Some demonstrators gathered on Hong Kong Island on August 31 the previous year and clashes between police and civilians broke out.

Seven men and women arrested in Causeway Bay were charged with riots.

Six of the defendants had been convicted earlier, and a transport worker wearing black clothes and black trousers and armor at the time of the case was not satisfied as a first-aider, and was convicted of rioting and possession of radio communication equipment.

The District Court judge today (18) said that the scale of the riot was huge and threatening. He was eventually sentenced to 4 years in prison and fined 5,000 yuan. The defendant's mother wept bitterly.

The lawyer for the defendant Chen Zuohao (25 years old, transport worker) pleaded that the defendant did not agitate or lead others in the case, did not use violence, and did not have offensive weapons on his body.

300 people participated in a huge scale

When sentencing, the judge pointed out that the riots in this case did not happen suddenly, and there were up to 300 people involved, and the scale was huge.

Someone occupied the road, set fires, and dumped gasoline bombs. The entire riot lasted about half an hour and was very threatening.

However, the judge also pointed out that the defendant did not lead others, and there were no serious casualties in the case.

The judge finally sentenced the defendant to 4 years in jail for the crime of riot and a fine of 5,000 yuan for possession of radio communication equipment.

The defendant's mother cried bitterly after hearing the sentence.

Someone hit the police with bricks and petrol bombs

According to the case, a large number of demonstrators assembled on Hong Kong Island in the afternoon of August 31 the previous year.

In the evening of the same day, about 300 demonstrators gathered in Causeway Bay. Some people smashed bricks and petrol bombs to the police.

The police later pushed forward, and several defendants were eventually arrested in Paterson Street and Great George Street.

The Department of Justice has appealed the acquittal of 4 defendants

The case originally involved 7 defendants, and the other 6 defendants: Jin Junqing (34 years old, engineering personnel), Liu Yuxuan (23 years old, student), Guo Meijun (22 years old, student), Xu Zhirui (22 years old, student), Chen Ziyang (41 years old, maintenance Gong), and Zou Yonglin (25 years old).
