An assault rifle shooting near a place known as a hub for drug trafficking in Nîmes left one dead on Monday evening, the public prosecutor told reporters.
A car in which were two people was targeted, said Eric Maurel without further details at this stage.

The shooting took place in the Wagner gallery located in the poor district of Pissevin.
The SRPJ is seized of the investigation.
For several months, several poor neighborhoods in the city of Nîmes have been the scene of sometimes fatal shootings involving weapons of war against a background of drug trafficking.
In February 2020, residents of the Pissevin district, one of the poorest in France, had launched
“a call for help”
after a gun battle that left three wounded.
In Pissevin, built on the outskirts of Nîmes, 70% of the 13,000 inhabitants live below the poverty line.
The unemployment rate is 46%.
The Wagner Gallery is known locally as the epicenter of drug trafficking.
