Colombian Defense Minister Carlos Holmes Trujillo, who tested positive for covid-19, is hospitalized "in the critical care area," according to a statement from the Colombian presidency issued this Monday.
The official continues to "receive permanent medical attention from the corresponding multidisciplinary group, due to the current acute respiratory infection, secondary to viral pneumonia due to SARS COV-2," the official note explains.
"After being evaluated by the medical personnel of the Military Hospital in Bogotá, it is reported that strict monitoring of his clinical condition and medical care is maintained."
The government announced that while Holmes Trujillo recovers the Commander General of the Military Forces, Luis Fernando Navarro Jiménez, will take over as Minister of Defense in charge.
On January 12, it was reported that the minister had been diagnosed with covid-19.
