"The hand of chance has brought me to the age of 100," laughs Dan Tolkowski, former Air Force commander, as we call to wish him a happy birthday and hear what tips he can provide us from the heights of his age.

Tolkowski, who was born on January 17, 1921, exactly one hundred years ago yesterday (Sunday), was very concerned about the security of the State of Israel.

He began his military service at the age of 16, when he enlisted in the defense.

A few months ago, he told "Israel Today" to mark the 100th anniversary of the defense, that "for me, the defense was running around on a bicycle in Tel Aviv, sending letters to all kinds of dignitaries."

From there he enlisted in the British Army, completed a pilot course and fought as a "Spitfire" pilot in Italy, France and Greece.

Upon his release in 1946, he began working as a mechanical engineer in Britain, and at the same time was recruited back to the defense and engaged in the secret purchase of aircraft and their flight to Israel.

"I spoke to someone in the British Air Force, and he said they were looking for recruits for defense. So I came back," he later said.

Dan even injured his hand when he brought a plane to Israel.

Later he was among those present at the declaration of independence, and enlisted in the Air Force.

In 1953, he became commander of the Fifth Air Force, commanding the corps, among other things, in Operation Kadesh.

These days, like many of the elderly in the State of Israel, he rarely leaves his home in order not to get infected in Corona.

A few days ago he received the second vaccine, and he hopes to come out more later, aided by his Filipino worker, who has been with him for 13 years.

"I have already received a second vaccine, everything is fine. I go for a walk in the square once or twice a week, and in a few weeks, when the remains of the personal corona will pass, I will go out a little more."

We asked Tolkowski to know what the tip is, what the big secret is - how do you reach the age of 100?

"I have no advice," he laughs with a slight embarrassment.

"Eat fine, sleep fine, and move fine."

Recommend being Air Force Commander for Good Health?

Definitely definitely.

It helps health to be in the Air Force. "
