People arriving in Hong Kong from overseas are required to undergo compulsory quarantine at designated hotels for 21 days. A total of 36 hotels participate in the "Designated Quarantine Hotel Program" to provide services.
The head of the Civil Service Bureau, Nie Dequan, said today (18th) that it is estimated that the number of short-term arrivals will decrease. The second round of the plan will be reduced from 12,000 rooms to 10,000, and the number of hotels providing services will remain 36 Room, but 4 of them are new additions.
He also mentioned that the number of lower-priced hotels available for selection will increase. There are 11 hotels under 500 yuan, and the number of rooms doubled to more than 2,800, accounting for 27% of the total number of rooms provided by the second round of hotels.
Nie Dequan said that the second round of the plan will be reduced from 12,000 rooms to 10,000.

The quarantine hotel plan was launched in the past month with an occupancy rate of nearly 60%.
Nie Dequan said that the designated quarantine hotel plan is an important measure for foreign import prevention and effectively prevents tourists from contacting local people during the quarantine period.
He mentioned that the plan was fully implemented on December 22 last year. The first batch of 36 rooms will provide a total of 12,000 rooms.
The contract period will end on the 19th of next month. The first round of the quarantine hotel plan has been launched for nearly a month and has been running smoothly. He mentioned that the cumulative number of hotel occupants is 9,600, and the latest occupancy rate is close to 60%.
As for the second round of planning arrangements, he mentioned that the authorities have sent invitations to 2500 hotels and received a total of more than 70 hotel applications. He pointed out that there are more low-cost hotel applications in this round, and the prerequisites assessed by the authorities must be met. The Department of Health requires epidemic prevention. Other considerations include housing prices and performance during the first round of contracts.

Nie Dequan said that the government has tightened the quarantine period to the 21st, and also banned overseas people from coming to Hong Kong from the United Kingdom and South Africa. It is estimated that the number of people coming to Hong Kong will drop slightly in the short term, reducing the number of rooms required to 10,000.
He continued that a new round of hotels is ready and 36 designated hotels are still maintained, of which 32 are among the first designated hotels, and another 4 are newly added.
The contract period is the same for 60 days, from February 20 to April 20.
The number of rooms in hotels with room prices below 500 yuan accounted for 27%.
He continued to point out that in response to the different requirements of the market for hotels with different prices, hotels with lower prices were added, and the number of rooms at or below 500 yuan increased from 7 to 11, and the number of rooms doubled to more than 2,800 rooms, accounting for 27% of the total number of rooms provided by the second round of hotels; as for the price of 1,000 yuan or less, it accounts for 83%.
