Two days from leaving the White House, dropped by his relatives and deprived of social networks, he is at the lowest in opinion.

A final poll published Monday credits Donald Trump with 34% good opinions on his actions as President of the United States, according to the Gallup Institute published Monday, the worst figure in a term that has deeply divided Americans.

Four years under 50% favorable opinions

The Gallup Institute, which since 1938 has measured the popularity of White House hosts throughout their tenures, points out that the outgoing president is the only one who has never reached the 50% mark in favor of his work.

He thus started his presidency with 45% satisfaction, before reaching 49% in early 2020, and 46% before the election on November 3.

His rating has eroded in recent months due to his refusal to acknowledge his defeat, his attempts to invalidate the result of the vote and the assault of his supporters against Congress on January 6, not to mention of course the terrible assessment of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The worst odds since Harry S. Truman

Over time, Donald Trump is leaving office with an average popularity of 41%, the worst rating among all outgoing presidents, according to Gallup, which measures this indicator since Harry S. Truman, the least popular American head of state until 'here (45.4% from 1945 to 1953).

Another lesson, Donald Trump leaves a country deeply divided between his supporters and his opponents.

In this latest poll, 82% of Republicans approve of his action, compared to only 4% of Democrats and 30% for independent voters.

For Gallup, his presidential defeat can be explained in part by his inability to rally beyond his electoral base, considering that less than one in three American voters identify with the Republican Party and a majority of Independents feels close to the Democratic Party.
