Many a Merz fan in the CSU, and there were some at the grassroots level, are disappointed with the CDU election.
A chance for Söder?
The race for the candidacy for chancellor is now more open than ever.
The election of the CDU delegates fell on Armin Laschet as party leader on Saturday.
Many a CSU politician might not have liked it.
For Markus Söder, however, it could be a chance to distinguish himself as a candidate for chancellor.
Munich
- On Saturday lunchtime,
Markus Söder
stands in
front of a church in Nuremberg * and expresses himself unctuously.
“Fair process”, “I'm very happy”, “Very, very good and close cooperation”.
He says such things into the cameras as the first reaction to the
Laschet election
.
Nice and harmless - until a few follow-ups.
The
CDU
must now “bring good results” to the upcoming state elections, and the “newly established
CDU
must show itself to be
completely closed, that is important”.
Laschet election as CDU party chairman: Söder can sit back for now
Congratulations and two yardsticks at the same time: Just a few minutes after the
Laschet election
,
Söder
outlined
how he will measure the new CDU chairman.
He sets the bar high, because neither the election in
Baden-Württemberg *
against the green celebrity Kretschmann nor
the election in
Rhineland-Palatinate *
against a traffic light alliance are self-evident for the CDU *.
And the party is really not closed after the narrow Merz failure.
For
Söder
this situation is comfortable: He can now wait until after Easter to see how
Laschet
does
in the new office.
Until then, the Franconian and the NRW Regent are considered potential
candidates for chancellor of
the Union
, without the need for an unsolicited application
.
In party circles it can be heard that
Söder
preferred
the
Laschet election
.
Not in his speech at the digital party congress, but a few days before that, the CSU boss had hinted at that.
Lashing *
is predictable for him, so far not a dangerous rival.
Armin is "really nice, but not weighty," says the CSU leadership with satisfaction.
The fact that
Merz
and the young Minister of Health
Jens Spahn
have lost massive ground at this party congress can
only be right for
Söder
,
if
he wants to
keep
the chance of a
candidate for chancellor
open.
After Laschet was elected CDU chairman: CSU base would have liked Merz to be the winner
At the
CSU base
, however, many think differently.
The edgy economic
politician Merz
was very well received by many Christian Socials.
For the second home in Tegernsee, including the Miesbach license plate, many celebrated it as half of Bavaria.
"In fact,
Friedrich Merz has
a lot of fans in Upper Bavaria," says district
chairwoman Ilse Aigner
.
"Personally, I would have liked him to play an important role in the party leadership."
Aigner is
now calling for unity in the Union.
Others react more angrily.
"A chance missed," writes the Franconian state parliament member Steffen Vogel on Facebook and distributes a
Laschet photo
from spring in which the CDU man has the mask hanging under his nose and looks stupid.
How are you supposed to win the election with that, Vogel scoffs.
In the tough
Merz fan club
, the most ardent supporters of
Söder's candidacy for chancellor
are now gathering
.
He himself sees the risks for the
CSU *
: unexplained succession in Bavaria, an end to the hugely popular dualism of being able to rant unrestrainedly against the government up there in Berlin as a CSU politician at any time.
Many of the members of the Bundestag would like to accept that.
They believe that
Söder is
most likely to secure their (direct) mandates.
CDU party chairmanship: Söder will have a harder time against Laschet
"The best has to run as
candidate for chancellor
," says Ulrike Scharf, head of the women's union in Bavaria.
"The Union must now deliberate intensively and have the
election victory
clearly in mind."
A former chairman advises his
CSU
, however,
Laschet
not be underestimated.
Erwin Huber
warns that
Laschet is
“camouflaged in a friendly and harmonious way, more strongly than AKK
want to establish
a dominance of the
CDU
in the Union family.
Söder
and the
CSU
will do harder to maintain their own weight and influence against the
Merkel and Spahn
duo
. “You now have to come to terms with a stronger and more determined sister.
Söder
wants to
avoid an
open dispute
in the coming weeks. You will come to an understanding together, he and
Laschet
, he says on Sunday evening on ARD. The right of initiative is of course always with the CDU. The decisive point is: “What is the best for the country? Everyone has to submit to this. ”And:“ It doesn't depend on the ego of an individual. ”
