The facts took place late Friday afternoon at Jean-Zay elementary school, in the popular Chemin-Bas district of Avignon.
The man, who came to talk about his 7-year-old son's school problems, took this school principal to task, under the gaze of many witnesses.
He then referred to Samuel Paty after having insulted him copiously.
Wanted by the police, he presented himself to the police station on Friday evening.
Placed in custody, he was then referred, then imprisoned on Sunday.
He should be tried Tuesday in immediate appearance.

, all the teachers at Jean-Zay school exercised their right of withdrawal on Monday.
Other teachers and professors from schools and colleges in the neighborhood have also asserted their right of withdrawal, in solidarity.
Banners were posted Monday morning at Jean-Zay school, in support of the attacked principal.
