The new coronavirus pneumonia epidemic in Hong Kong continues. The Hong Kong government requires people arriving in Hong Kong to wait at the airport until they have a negative test result before leaving.

The Secretary for the Civil Service, Nie Dequan, said today (18th) that from December 22 last year to January 15 this year, the number of confirmed cases detected at the airport was 38.

In addition, starting from December 31 last year, the government commissioned a contractor to set up a laboratory for nucleic acid testing at the airport. The waiting time for passengers at the airport has been reduced from 7 to 8 hours to 3 to 4 hours.

Nie Dequan said today that at present, all people arriving at the airport must undergo a nucleic acid test after they arrive in Hong Kong, and ordinary people must have a negative result after sampling before leaving for quarantine at designated hotels.

Regarding the sampling arrangement, since December 15 last year, passengers have already provided their own deep throat saliva samples, instead of throat and nasal swabs sampled by personnel. He said that "the quality of the samples is relatively guaranteed."

From December 22 last year to January 15 this year, the number of confirmed cases detected at the airport was 38.

He also said that because the airport is still implementing "testing pending", that is, a negative result can be used to leave, the government has paid attention to the testing technology and "hopes that there can be a fast and reliable testing technology" to facilitate passengers.

Beginning on December 31 last year, the government commissioned a contractor to set up a laboratory for nucleic acid testing at the airport, and the waiting time for passengers at the airport was reduced to 3 to 4 hours.

In addition, after the passenger completes the test and has a negative result, those who have stayed outside the mainland of China within 21 days must take the government to arrange transportation to the designated hotel for quarantine on the 21st.

People arriving in Hong Kong are also required to undergo two tests at the hotel during the quarantine period, including 12 days after arrival, and the 19th or 20th day.

Nie Dequan pointed out that the test is also carried out by a dedicated sampling method.

Since December 22 last year, the hotel has found 38 confirmed cases, 35 of which were detected on the 12th day; 3 cases were detected on the 19th day.
