The Palestinian Authority is working to renovate and rehabilitate homes in Jerusalem, Israel Today has learned.

Yesterday (Sunday), the Authority announced that for the first time it is possible to receive a grant for home renovations in Jerusalem, as part of the "Strong and Rooted People in Jerusalem" campaign.

The project is sponsored by the President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas Abu Mazen, and the announcement of the project includes photos of Yasser Arafat, the head of the PLO and the founder of the Palestinian Authority, with Mahmoud Abbas by his side.

The announcement reads: "We announce the launch of a home restoration project in the Jerusalem sub-district as part of the Eitan and Roots campaign in Jerusalem."

The project is intended for the rehabilitation of homes in Jerusalem that are not residential and are in danger of collapsing.

According to the plan, as part of the project, which is the first of its kind, about 50 housing units in Jerusalem will be renovated each year.

The Palestinian Authority's publication clarified that the goal of the project is "to ensure a decent life and strengthen the resilience of the residents of Jerusalem."

This is not the first time they have tried to intervene in sovereignty in the capital.

Maor Tzemach, chairman of Lech Yerushalayim, commented on the project, saying: "The activity of the Palestinian Authority in Jerusalem is contrary to the law of application, which does not allow the Palestinian Authority to act in any way in the city.

Israel is the sovereign of East Jerusalem and must not allow any foreign interference in the management of the city's civil affairs.

"Israel must stop a project of this kind, humanitarian as it may be, and thus prevent a violation of Israeli sovereignty in Jerusalem."
