Morbidity in the IDF in the IDF has been rising steadily over the past month, and as of today (Monday) 1,642 soldiers have been diagnosed with the virus. However, commanders in IDF field units claim that the tension between the desire to fulfill military missions and the Corona's guidelines is inconsistent The senior command, and as a result disciplinary phenomena develop, and false reports are raised.

A prominent example of this took place in the Givati Brigade, where only in the last month were dozens of fighters reported infected with the virus, and around them - unusual and problematic conduct.

Last November, the Shaked Battalion's auxiliary company in the brigade completed operational activities in the Gaza Strip and began a series of training sessions.

Two weeks later, a soldier at the battalion headquarters reported that his wife had apparently fallen ill in Corona, and the two were suffering from symptoms.

Despite this, his commanders demanded that he return to base on Sunday.

The soldier arrived and the next day was released to his home because, according to his commanders, he was suffering from symptoms.

On the same day, the entire ward to which he belongs was transferred to isolation, and later it was reported at the battalion headquarters that the soldier himself had been tested and tested positive for the virus.

Accordingly, it was decided that the fighters would move to home isolation.

Parents came to pick up the boys from the base and those who were unable to do so traveled by public transport - contrary to orders dealing with Corona.

Parents called the commanders and warned them that they might infect civilians, but the commanders explained to the parents that their hands were tied and this was an instruction they had received from the battalion's senior commanders.

The parents did not raise their hands and called the company commander, who did not answer them.

By noon, everyone, including the staff, had been taken out for isolation.

The army did not provide tests at the soldiers' homes, and the parents themselves feared infection, so some of the soldiers who went home announced that they intended to be tested in civilian drive-ins and local authority positions - but did not receive approval, even though the tests are free.

The soldiers' commanders even warned them that there was an intention to "bring to justice anyone who determined a corona (civilian) examination on his own."

In light of this, soldiers rushed to cancel the tests at the drive-in.

One of the commanders said that "this is probably a directive of the battalion doctor, because the battalion probably has a certain allocation of tests and they want it to be controlled."

Although platoon commanders told the soldiers that they had passed lists to the battalion's doctor in order to receive a test quota, only some of them were approved because the quota was limited.

In light of the developments, the company commander sent a message to parents in a joint WhatsApp group in which he wrote: "In the last week, a verified patient was discovered inside the company. Luckily, the patient did not come in contact with other fighters in the company except his ward and several other fighters.

The commander later emphasized to the parents that the unit was on alert and therefore every fighter was important.

"We will continue to be under constant medical surveillance of the fighters in the company. It is important that you show understanding in these moments and trust us that the good of the fighters and families is always before our eyes."

Alongside this, there were also officers in the battalion who resented the decision to send commanders and fighters home knowing they had been exposed to a Corona patient.

A few days later, commanders in the Shaked Battalion circulated messages in the WhatsApp groups, in which they allegedly explained why the soldiers were prevented from scheduling a civilian check, and linked this to a regular vacation to which the battalion is expected to go.

"Once each soldier orders a test voluntarily and comes out positive, the battalion will become a red and regular unit of the battalion will be canceled and the battalion will have an exit stop, so the doctor does not approve of any coughs and colds, only if you have really significant symptoms," it said.

Under the method of the Red Units introduced in the IDF, in any unit that has a large number of sick soldiers in Corona in relation to its manpower situation, the unit commander (brigade commander, camp or base) will be required to give explanations to the commander in command, arm or wing. Created around the definition of the red units caused incomplete reports, false reports or concealment of information. In a

message sent, the commanders stressed the doubt they cast on the credibility of the soldiers' reports. "I'm not stupid, I know very well why you all want to do tests as soon as possible and come out negative, so "Spare me the regrets of I endanger my parents, because if you were next to them with masks and did not break the insulation and left your room then you are not endangering anyone."

In response to the announcement, some parents decided to take the initiative and send the boys for corona tests independently.

Additional soldiers had to lie and report symptoms to get tests on behalf of the unit.

After two weeks from the beginning of the isolation, the unit went on regular leave, at the end of which they returned to base.

However, the soldier whose wife fell ill in Corona returned to the unit and was tried last week by the battalion commander for two weeks in detention. Commanders criticized the decision to punish him. "They found a goat to hell and punished him.

No one understood at all why, "they said. However, a military source added that" the soldier was prosecuted for violating instructions such as not wearing a mask, sharing a drinking bottle and a cigarette with other soldiers. "

IDF: "Lessons learned from the incident"

An IDF spokesman said in response that "the case in question is known and handled by the commanders.

The platoon commander was called for a warning call led by the battalion commander due to his responsibility for what was happening at the incident.

On the day the soldier returned to base, the company commander and the battalion commander learned that the soldier had been exposed to a family member with symptoms, upon learning of the incident the soldier was immediately isolated.

It should be noted that the soldier was tried because he violated the guidelines of the Ministry of Health while he was removed from the unit.

"" Contrary to the claim, the soldier was not tried due to being found sick.

For all the soldiers who were required in isolation, a trip was booked in order to allow them to reach their home while following the instructions.

Despite this, there are a number of soldiers who have chosen to return home on an independent shuttle from the base along with their parents.

Contrary to the instructions and without the commanders' knowledge, a number of soldiers used public transportation to get to their home and the incident would be investigated.

The lessons of the incident have been learned and in addition the battalion commander will hold a conversation with the commanders regarding the conclusions of the incident. "
