Rescue crews in China are trying to reach at least 12 gold miners trapped in nine days, and today (Tuesday) they drilled some new holes.
Food supplies are dwindling, and rising water levels are threatening their survival.
Twenty-five workers were trapped at a depth of 540 meters at the Hoshan mine near Yanti in eastern China's Shandong province, following an explosion that hit its entrance.
After days without signs of life, some of the trapped miners were able to send a note attached to a metal cable, which the rescuers threw into a mine on Sunday.
The miners begged for help, writing that 12 of them survived, however they were surrounded by water and urgently needed medical supplies.
According to the letter, several of them were injured.
