Released in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic by Matteo Renzi and his ministers, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte won a crucial vote of confidence in the Senate on Tuesday, but his coalition government, deprived of an absolute majority, came out very weakened.

Giuseppe Conte secured 156 votes against 140 in the upper house where the absolute majority is 161 seats, following a vote in which the fifteen elected Viva Italia (IV), the party of the former Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, abstained.
