Italy has expressed its deep concern over the Israeli occupation authorities' announcement of a plan to establish 800 new settlement units on Palestinian lands, stressing that expanding settlements in the West Bank violates international law.
The Italian Foreign Ministry said in a statement today, carried by the Palestinian Wafa news agency, that Italy reiterates its deep concern about the decision of "Israel" to initiate the construction of 800 new units in the West Bank, and calls on "Israel" to reconsider its step that violates international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
Earlier, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, reiterated that the settlement operations carried out by the Israeli occupation in the occupied Palestinian territories do not enjoy any legal legitimacy and constitute a flagrant violation of international law, calling for their cessation.
