The government's decision to approve tonight (Tuesday) the extension of the tight closure by ten days will make it the longest that has been imposed so far in Israel.

Against the background of the publication of police data, according to which the stricter restrictions are enforced to an extent that does not match the morbidity indices in the various cities, it was determined that the closure will continue in the same format, except for individual changes regarding passengers arriving on flights.

The regulations will remain in effect until at least the end of next month, but some may be halted even before they are actually expressed following blue-and-white resistance.

What do they include, what changes have been made, what will return from abroad look like and in which places of enforcement is particularly high? An updated guide to the third closure.

Outline of the tight closure

  • The activity of the education system will be completely stopped, except for special education

  • Economic activity will be limited to vital jobs only

  • Gatherings will be limited to 5 people indoors and 10 people in the open

  • Prayer in the building will be allowed for up to 5 people instead of 10

  • The thousand-meter limit will remain in place

  • Reducing occupancy by public transport to 50%

  • Demonstrations will be exceeded by the distance limit and allowed by regulations

  • Prohibition on staying in another person's residence

  • Those entering Israel will be required to check before the flight

How long will the closure last?

The current restrictions will be enforced by the end of the month - until Sunday, January 31, at midnight.

However, they may be extended once more later, after the Ministry of Health's demand to extend the closure by two weeks was not met.

What changes have been made to the restrictions?

The government decided that the Ministry of Health's requirement of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to check all passengers arriving from abroad in the 72 hours before boarding was approved, and will take effect by the end of the month.

It also stipulates that students who do not have access to distance learning can take university exams. Provided that their number does not exceed 5%. Similarly, 11th-12th grade students may be tested for matriculation in schools, in accordance with established rules.
