The Ministry of Health is considering prioritizing pregnant women as part of the vaccination campaign against Corona - a source in the Ministry of Health told Walla!

NEWS.

This, in an attempt to reduce morbidity in this population after dozens of pregnant women diagnosed with corona were hospitalized, of which seven were in human condition.

The ministry is also examining whether there is an excess of morbidity among pregnant women compared to the general population, and whether the increase in hospitalization is related to the spread of the other strains of the corona.

According to the same source, the various mutations do not affect severe morbidity in pregnant women, but studies show that pregnancy is a catalyst for a serious illness, especially when the mother suffers from background illnesses.

The Ministry of Health also ordered the genetic sequencing of the corona tests of women and women in hospital in critical condition.

The National Council for Gynecology this morning called for women to be vaccinated against corona before getting pregnant, as well as for fertility couples and lactating women, and various experts joined the call.

The council clarified that "there is no scientific basis or facts to indicate infertility as a result of vaccination using the recognized vaccines", and that according to expert estimates there is no danger to a baby breastfeeding from a vaccinated mother's milk.

The council also warned that the virus could cause pregnant women to develop a serious illness, injure them during pregnancy or lead to a premature birth.

In summarizing a document that was circulated, the council recommended allowing vaccination for pregnant women who are interested, especially if they are in a risk group, in consultation with a attending physician.

"It should be noted that the only reason there is no sweeping recommendation for the vaccination of pregnant women at this time is the fact that the safety studies of the vaccine excluded pregnant women in the first place, and therefore the complete safety of the vaccine has not been proven in relation to pregnancy or developing fetus."

However, the council also said that a pregnant woman who is not at high risk for exposure to the virus can postpone the vaccine until the second trimester of pregnancy or after childbirth.

We are familiar with these phenomena from the literature and this is not new to us, "said Prof. Maimon." I recommend that women who are planning a pregnancy wait for the vaccine and then get pregnant safely.

"If the woman is already pregnant, there is no fear of continuing with the vaccination procedure

." "[We] do not know if it is related to mutations at the moment, we are at the beginning of an event - from the beginning of the epidemic we have not been with so many pregnant women with seriously ill patients."

Prof. Gili Regev-Yohai from Sheba Medical Center also called on pregnant women to get vaccinated. Prof. Regev-Yohai. "This disease is also difficult for pregnant women, in recent days we have had severe cases of pregnant respirators.

In terms of risk management - between getting a vaccine that at least on a theoretical level is much less dangerous than other vaccines that we do give in pregnancy if it is a flu vaccine or if it is pertussis, I think if I was pregnant then I would definitely [be vaccinated] ".
