The FBI alerted other law enforcement agencies Monday that QAnon supporters discussed posing as National Guard soldiers in Washington to try to infiltrate President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration, The Washington Post reported. .

In an intelligence report obtained by The Washington Post, the FBI said it monitored people downloading maps of sensitive areas around Washington and talking about how those locations could be used to breach security, the newspaper reported.

The intelligence report warned that QAnon members and the "lone wolves" indicated they plan to travel to Washington for Biden's inauguration ceremony on Wednesday, The Washington Post said.

"But the intelligence report did not identify any specific plot to attack the inaugural events" that would be similar to the January 6 uprising at the US Capitol, in which some members of QAnon participated, the newspaper said.

The FBI noted that it detected "suspicious traffic" in the communication systems used by some participants in the attack on the Capitol on January 6, but "nothing that indicates a specific action," according to the newspaper.

The newspaper said the FBI refused to "characterize the credibility or seriousness of the threats it described" in its report.

When asked for comment on Tuesday, the FBI pointed out to CNN comments made by FBI Director Christopher Wray last week, in which he said the FBI is monitoring a "large number of troubling online conversations" surrounding to the inauguration and pointed out that "one of the real challenges in this space is trying to distinguish what is aspirational and what is potential."

"We are monitoring all incoming leads, whether they are calls for armed protests, potential threats arising from the rape of the Capitol on January 6 or other types of potential threats leading to inaugural events and various other targets," Wray said.

CNN previously reported that the FBI is investigating the thousands of National Guard troops providing security at the inauguration prior to their arrival in Washington to prevent insider threats.

The United States Army is working with the Secret Service to determine if there are soldiers who require an additional background investigation.

Acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller said Monday that "there is no intelligence information indicating an internal threat" to Biden's inauguration, adding that "we are not going to leave a stone unturned to secure the capital."

"The Washington National Guard is also providing additional training to service members when they arrive in town that if they see or hear something that is inappropriate, they should report it to their chain of command," Miller said in his statement Monday.

In the wake of the Capitol uprising earlier this month, there has been a massive security presence in Washington for Biden's inauguration, and more than 20,000 National Guard soldiers are expected to be in town to help secure the event.
