A rare infectious disease was detected in a child from the northern district at the end of December.
The child attends the Geretsried secondary school.
Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen
- The
diagnosis
was made "after
the
bacterium had
been detected
in a
cattle herd
and the
veterinary office had passed
this on to the health department", said the
press spokeswoman for the district office
, Sabine Schmid,
on Tuesday
.
All cattle in the herd
were killed
due to a
large number of positive cases
and the carcasses disposed of.
The operation, about which the district authority does not provide any details, was closed after the first discovery, so that neither meat nor milk came into circulation as food.
Tuberculosis outbreak in the district: Two people from the family tested positive
In the course of the examination of
the child's family
,
two people tested positive
, "they are also receiving medical treatment," said Schmid.
And: In the case of a TB certificate, "the contact minutes of each individual contact in the three months before the test are added up and it is checked who had more than
40 hours of contact
with the infected person, the Geretsried secondary school was informed".
Tuberculosis outbreak in the district: Other classes are not affected
On
Monday evening, the health department
informed
all
affected parents and teachers
about the current situation in a video conference.
According to Schmid, there was an opportunity to ask the experts questions.
The child's classmates and the teachers are also tested for safety's sake.
Other classes are not affected, as the contact time was significantly below - not least as a result of the infection protection regulations due to the corona pandemic.
Tuberculosis outbreak in the district: Germany "officially free from bovine tuberculosis"
"Bovine tuberculosis occurs very rarely in our latitudes," explains the spokeswoman for the district office.
Germany is “officially free from bovine tuberculosis”, so it is still
unclear how the pathogen was introduced into the animal population.
A transmission of the disease from
cattle to humans is "very unusual"
.
People react very differently to the bacterium, in the majority of cases the disease does not break out.
If this does happen, “it usually takes a long time”.
Schmid: "It is only contagious if, as in the specific case, it is open tuberculosis."
Outbreak of tuberculosis: “Low” contagiousness
Proof in humans is via the so-called sputum, that is, the sputum produced, for example, when coughing.
“The child's sputum was examined.
The bacterium could only be detected culturally, that is, cultivated. ”According to Schmid, the bacterium was not directly visible under the microscope:“ It can therefore be assumed that the infection is low. ”
