Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro congratulated his new American counterpart Joe Biden on Wednesday, a few hours after the enthronement in Washington of the man whose electoral victory he had taken weeks to recognize.

I congratulate Joe Biden, 46th President of the United States,
” wrote on Twitter Jair Bolsonaro, sometimes nicknamed the “
Trump of the tropics
” because of his boundless admiration for former US President Donald Trump.

The relationship between Brazil and the United States is old, solid and based on high values, such as the defense of democracy and individual freedoms
,” continues the far-right president.

The Brazilian president took more than a month to recognize Joe Biden's victory in the November presidential election.
He was the last G20 leader to express his wishes to him in mid-December, saying he was "
