New York-Sana

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari affirmed that Resolution 1373 did not contribute to strengthening coordinated international cooperation to combat terrorism, dry up its sources of funding, and combat extremist ideology and distorted false teachings that promote it.

Al-Jaafari said during a session of the UN Security Council that Western countries took advantage of the issue of combating terrorism to destroy other countries and try to eradicate their economic and cultural achievements and plunder their wealth and stigmatize these countries on charges of supporting terrorism while they are innocent.

Al-Jaafari explained that politicization, selectivity, multiple standards and investment in terrorism have overshadowed the issue of combating terrorism, and the biggest beneficiaries are terrorist organizations and their leaders.

Al-Jaafari indicated that the recent terrorist acts in Washington would have been welcomed, supported and praised by Western countries had they taken place in one of the capitals of many member states.

Al-Jaafari affirmed that Syria renews its call for strengthening serious international cooperation under the umbrella of the United Nations to combat and eradicate terrorism and support its efforts to combat ISIS and the Al-Nusra Front and the terrorist entities and groups associated with them.

Al-Jaafari said that the hypocrisy of the Western countries has reached an abominable point, on the one hand the American administration claims to have eliminated the terrorist organization "ISIS" and on the other hand it is reforming and operating it to target my country.

Al-Jaafari indicated that the terrorist organization Jabhat al-Nusra, with the support of the Turkish regime, continues to control swaths of Idlib governorate and its vicinity, detaining civilians as hostages and human shields, noting that Western countries continue to obstruct the Security Council’s move to put an end to the crimes of terrorist organizations in Syria and hold their perpetrators and their operators accountable.

Al-Jaafari added: The United States and the European Union continue to impose more coercive measures on Syria and other countries, ignoring the calls of the United Nations to put an end to these measures, stressing that the coercive economic measures imposed on Syria hinder the purchase of medicines and humanitarian needs and the provision of food baskets to those who deserve it.

Al-Jaafari said that the American occupation forces continue to plunder Syria’s wealth of oil, gas and agricultural crops, burning and destroying what it cannot steal, stressing that the new US administration must stop acts of aggression and occupation, plundering the wealth of my country, withdraw its occupying forces from it, and stop supporting separatist militias, illegal entities, and attempts to threaten Syria's sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.
