The president-elect also plans to re-include undocumented immigrants in the Census and has already announced that he will propose to Congress a plan to guarantee an eight-year path to citizenship for people in an irregular situation.

President-elect Joe Biden plans to take up to 15 executive actions on the first day of his presidency, which opens this Wednesday.

Several of them plan to reverse policies of the hitherto president, Donald Trump, on issues such as

immigration, the management of the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change

One of the measures he will take immediately, as announced by incoming White House officials, has the objective of paralyzing the construction of the border wall with Mexico,

one of the great axes

of Trump's

immigration policy

.

It is not the only action aimed at reversing the Republican's immigration policies planned for the first day of the new Administration, the same sources added: Biden also plans to issue an executive order to

re-include undocumented immigrants in the census

, whom Trump excluded last year.

In addition, it has already announced that it will propose to Congress a plan to guarantee a path of regularization for undocumented persons until they can obtain citizenship in eight years

if certain conditions are met

[Mexico never paid for the border wall.

But what about the rest of Trump's promises?]

The Trump Administration, for its part, has been

trying to the end to implement ways to hinder Biden from carrying out this agenda

, current and former outgoing government officials told our sister network NBC News: The Department of Homeland Security signed on In recent weeks, legal agreements with state and local authorities to try to delay any change in immigration policies for 180 days, reports this medium.

However, experts in legal matters have raised doubts about whether it will be possible to put these agreements into practice.

Four of those pacts were initially reported by Buzzfeed News.

A “very different” migration approach

The members of the team that manages the transition of power to Biden do not tire of remembering that the president-elect plans to approach immigration from Central America to the United States in a “very different” way than his predecessor did.

This, among other things,

made the process of obtaining asylum almost impossible

, leaving thousands of migrants in desperate conditions in northern Mexico for months waiting for judges to evaluate their applications for international protection.

During part of his term, he also favored the separation of families detained after crossing the border and the acceleration of the deportation process for undocumented persons,

including unaccompanied minors

One of his most repeated electoral promises was to build hundreds of miles of barrier on the southern border to block migrants and trap drug traffickers.

As of January 8 this year,

his Administration only raised 47 new miles

, while much of the work carried out consisted of reinforcing barriers already built by previous governments, according to our sister network NBC News.

[Biden will propose a path to citizenship for the undocumented and end the ban on asylum.

How fast can it be done?]

Biden plans to immediately terminate this project through a measure called a presidential proclamation, the emergency declaration that Trump made to be able to allocate federal funds to the construction of the wall, according to members of the future Administration.

The idea, they added, is to allow a "review of the legal basis" that would allow the use of federal funds to build the wall and also review the contracts that were stipulated for it.

A “more efficient, fair and humane” international protection system

"The president-elect is also committed to rebuilding the nation's asylum system to make it more efficient, fair and humane," added one of the incoming officers who work with Biden.

However, he specified, changing the current system

"will take months

"

[Biden has promised to stop Trump's border wall, but would clash with demands to dismantle it]

Among the planned measures, it is envisaged "to guarantee that those who need protection can be quickly identified and that they are given relief at the border, while those who do not qualify for asylum are expelled in a dignified and humane manner."

Biden will sign presidential executive actions this Wednesday also in other areas, such as health: among them, one is expected to implement the use of the mandatory mask against COVID-19 in federal buildings and lands and another to ask that the United States

re-form part of the World Health Organization (WHO)

, after Trump withdrew the country from it.

It will also be asked to extend the freeze on evictions until March 31 and extend the pause in student loan payments and interest until September 30.
