Three federations of the French Council of Muslim Worship (CFCM) indicate this Wednesday in a press release that they refuse to sign as it stands the "
charter of principles
" of Islam in France, believing that certain provisions risk "
weakening the links of trust
”with Muslims.

Certain passages and formulations of the text submitted are likely to weaken the bonds of trust between the Muslims of France and the Nation
", deplore the Franco-Turkish associations CCMTF and CIMG France as well as the rigorous movement Faith and Practice.

Claimed by Emmanuel Macron in the wake of his offensive against "
separatism
", this charter was initialed Sunday, January 17 by five of the nine federations of the CFCM after weeks of internal crisis.
After its formal adoption, it was greeted on Monday by the Head of State as a "
clear and precise commitment in favor of the Republic
", at the end of a meeting at the Elysee Palace.
Torn off after a hard fight, this text notably denounces
the
political “
instrumentalisation
” of Islam, proscribes “
interference
” by foreign states in worship in France and reaffirms the “
compatibility
” of the Muslim faith with the Republic.
According to a source familiar with the matter, the main points of disagreement expressed by these federations relate to the definition of
foreign
"
interference
" and the precise definition of political Islam.
The Coordinating Committee of Turkish Muslims in France (CCMTF) as well as Millî Görüs (CIMG) and the Faith and Practice movement, close to the Tabligh preachers advocating a rigorous religious practice, ask for "
a broad, democratic and participatory consultation
" of their base before signing a text whose spirit they nevertheless welcome.

In order to adopt this charter, we must recognize ourselves in its content.
It would not be useful to sign a text that our community cannot calmly accept
”, they write.
This charter should pave the way for the creation of a National Council of Imams (CNI), which will be responsible for "
labeling
" imams practicing in France.
