China today announced the imposition of new sanctions on 28 American figures for their interference in China's internal affairs and serious violation of its sovereignty.
And Xinhua quoted a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman as saying that the sanctions include 28 people, including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and National Security Adviser John Bolton, in addition to former officials.
He explained that the persons who have been sanctioned are prohibited with their families from entering the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Macao, and companies and institutions associated with them are prohibited from doing business with China.
The spokesman stressed that the Chinese government is firmly determined to defend its national sovereignty, security and development interests.
He added that some politicians in the United States, motivated by their political interests, have seriously interfered in China's internal affairs, undermined its interests and offended its people, which led to the disruption of Sino-US relations.
Earlier, China imposed sanctions on US officials for their statements regarding Taiwan.
