We are a long way from the abysmal fall in the finances of local communities announced by those concerned when the coronavirus crisis exploded in March 2020. Some had also cried out loud and clear for disaster, already considering the state support insufficient ( between 6 and 7 billion euros in 2020 and 2021).
Even if there are strong disparities from one territory to another, it is clear that they have generally shown themselves to be much more resilient than expected, according to provisional data on their situation as of December 30, 2020 established by Bercy.
Non-final results which will be updated in February, once the accounts are closed.
But
"there will be no financial disaster for local communities",
insists Jean-René Cazeneuve, LREM deputy for Gers and president of the delegation to local authorities.

On the side of operating expenses first, Bercy observed a
"very slight increase"
of 0.4% on December 30, 2020, against 1.9% in 2019.
