The charter of principles which must henceforth govern the activity of Imams has been made public by the French Council of Muslim Worship.
This charter was wanted by Emmanuel Macron and it had been announced the day after the Mureaux speech on October 2 on the fight against separatism.

To date, only five of the nine federations that make up the CFCM have signed the text.
Among the non-signatories, the Coordination Committee of Turkish Muslims in France, the association Faith and Practice (related to Tabligh, an Islamist movement of Pakistani origin), the Millî Görüs (CIMG) and the association Islam Sounnat Djammate - Great Mosque of Sait Denis de la Réunion.
A demanding charter
Endowed with 10 articles, the charter specifies that “
no religious conviction can be invoked to evade the obligations of citizens
”.
She affirms: “
Neither our religious convictions nor any other reason can supplant the principles which found the law and the Constitution of the Republic.
"
The charter introduces the notion of "freedom of conscience" and "
equality between men and women
", and it bluntly condemns discrimination on the basis of "
sexual orientation
" and "
homophobia
".
The text also introduces the notion of "
political Islam
" which it condemns, by designating specific examples: Salafism, the Muslim Brotherhood and tabligh.
From now on, the text must be sent to the Regional Councils of Muslim Worship (CRCM).
"
The objective being to share them with all the actors of Islam in France, especially at the local level among imams, chaplains and mosque officials
", explains the CFCM press release, which says it is open to “
possible improvements
”.
