Hair salons have been closed again since mid-December.

Because of the lockdown, the guild fears an increase in undeclared work: hairdressers receive a number of “immoral” inquiries.

  • Hairdressing salons must remain closed in the second lockdown.

  • Meanwhile, the Bavarian guild is increasingly observing inquiries from consumers who nonetheless ask for a hairdresser appointment.

  • A master hairdresser from Bad Tölz is appalled by such news.

- Martina Lederer is angry.

She has been running a hairdressing salon in Bad Tölz for 16 years, which now has to remain closed during the lockdown.

As if the situation wasn't bad enough for the 39-year-old, she and her colleagues received numerous “immoral inquiries”.

The managing director receives messages again and again as to whether she could cut, wash or dye her hair privately.

The inquiries do not come from their salon customers, who show particularly solidarity during this time, says Lederer.

It is mostly contacts across three corners who ask for a hairdresser appointment.

“My employees are bothered with such requests every day,” says Martina Lederer.

But work that requires proximity to the customer is prohibited in lockdown.

Cutting home or house calls would be illegal and moonlighting.

Immoral requests to hairdressers - Guild responds with letters to the government

The Tölzerin is not the only one who finds herself in this situation.

The state guild association of the Bavarian hairdressing trade wrote to the state government in a letter on Monday.

"We are currently observing with great concern a massive increase in immoral inquiries from consumers who ask hairdressers about private appointments for haircuts," it says.

This is particularly bad during the corona pandemic, as hygiene concepts are less adhered to when cutting and blow-drying at home.

In addition, chains of infection are not traceable.

The guild, based in Fürstenfeldbruck, therefore appeals to the government that salons may reopen from February 1st.

Hairdressers gather for protests across Bavaria - "illegal work is flourishing"

To draw attention to their desperate situation, hairdressers took to the streets in many places in Bavaria on Monday evening.

In Ebersberg around 50 people with grave lights, combs and scissors had gathered in front of the district office.

They demanded: "Let's open up again." The initiators emphasized that hairdressers are also part of the trade.

However, unlike their craft colleagues from other industries, they are not allowed to work.

The companies, mostly family-run, are threatened in their existence.

Around 200 people gathered at a protest in Regensburg at the same time.

The initiator and master hairdresser Waltraud Mittermaier emphasized that the hairdressing industry had not received any financial support so far.

"The only thing that is currently blooming is undeclared work."

Hairdresser from Bad Tölz with appeal: "We are not allowed to work!"

Looking at the private inquiries, master hairdresser Martina Lederer suspects: In most cases it is simply ignorance.

“People think that according to the Corona regulation, it is allowed to meet.

A household can meet another person. ”But the 39-year-old emphasizes:“ We are not allowed to work, either in the salon or at home.

We are practically banned from working. ”Most of the time, her explanation follows:“ Oh, I didn't know that. ”

The woman from Tölzer would like more solidarity from her fellow men.

"This is the only way the lockdown can be ended faster and we hairdressers can open again soon."
