President of the Russian Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko stressed the importance of confronting any external attempts to interfere in the Russian parliamentary elections.
Matvienko said in a statement today ... that "we cannot rule out attempts to interfere with external forces in the electoral process, and this is one of the real challenges today ... and therefore we must address such provocations and eradicate them from their roots."
Matvienko indicated that the main political event in Russia this year is the elections of State Duma deputies as well as the local and municipal elections, expressing confidence that the Federation Council Committee for the Protection of State Sovereignty will analyze the situation related to the elections and monitor all attempts to destabilize Russia.
