The new crown pneumonia epidemic in Hong Kong continues. Earlier, foreign domestic helpers stayed in non-licensed intermediary dormitories.
According to the Labour and Welfare Bureau, as of January 17, there were 265 confirmed cases involving new arrivals and 245 foreign domestic helpers already in Hong Kong, a total of 510 cases.
From the 18th of last month to the 31st of this month, the government provided a free test for all foreign domestic helpers in Hong Kong. By the 10th of this month, more than 25,000 foreign domestic helpers had been tested by the community testing center, and 7 positive samples were found.
The authorities responded in writing to Wong Kwok Kin from the Federation of Trade Unions, stating that the Labour Department has been broadcasting on weekends and distributing leaflets to places where foreign domestic helpers often gather, urging them to abide by the regulations on wearing masks and prohibiting group gatherings in public places.
During holidays when more foreign domestic helpers gather, the Labour Department will work with relevant departments such as the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department, the Police Force and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department to take joint actions to combat violations of social distancing measures.
As of January 10, the Police Force and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department have issued 81 and 18 tickets to foreign domestic helpers for gathering restrictions and mask orders respectively. The main venues involve parks, gardens, flyovers, pedestrian areas, and hiking trails.
