Off to the cross-country ski trail and off you go: Cross-country skiing is enjoying growing popularity in the Munich district.

Münchner Merkur asked around and created an overview of where cross-country skiing is currently possible in the district.

District

- After the extremely mild winter of 2019/20, cross-country skiers have been waiting eagerly for this: that winter sports are practically possible on the doorstep and that cross-country trails are groomed.

Get out into the fresh air, do individual sports in accordance with the Corona regulations - after the snowfall last week, the snow cover is finally enough to do your cross-country skiing laps.

In many places in the district, cross-country skiers have groomed their own trails, but in Baierbrunn and Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn, trail-setting devices have also been in use since Sunday.

“We have very busy cross-country ski runs.

But everything adheres to the rules of distance ”, reports Mayor Mindy Konwitschny about the snow joy in Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn.

Oliver Eigner, who has been driving a snowmobile since 2009, is the cross-country manager and attaches various trailers to the trail: one for leveling and one for tracking.

Trio keeps 18 kilometers of track in good shape

"We are doing really well," says the 49-year-old.

Two pensioners, Wolfram Betzold and Rudolf Schmidt, help him to keep the 18-kilometer cross-country ski run in good condition.

The trio takes turns with the preparation of the cross-country ski runs, the round with the snowmobile takes about one and a half hours.

The problem, explains Oliver Eigner, is the large number of fields: “Clumps of earth keep looking through them.” But the snow can be compacted into a good base with the dozer blade.

“In view of the icy nights, it should survive a few warm days,” says the horticulturist with a view to the announced rise in temperature.

Oliver Eigner has a direct view of the cross-country ski run from his business on Friedrich-Bergius-Straße.

His impression: "There are a lot of cross-country skiers out and about, but nowhere are there any corona-relevant accumulations." The passionate snowboarder doesn't even strap on cross-country skis.

“I don't have any equipment,” laughs the cross-country ski run manager.

"I have more fun pulling the track with the Skidoo."

Altschützen take care of the trails in Baierbrunn

In Baierbrunn, the Altschützen have been looking after the trail west of the Isartal community for many years.

“We tried it for the first time on Sunday at noon.

The snow cover was thin, but it worked, ”says second rifle master Hans Ruppenstein.

The 79-year-old no longer sits on the snowmobile, "that's what our two spurs do": student Jörg Kowollik and pensioner Kurt Stiesberg.

"We are absolute non-professionals," emphasizes Hans Ruppenstein.

For the fact that the trail (eight kilometers there and back) is little known, it is very popular: "Apparently there is good word-of-mouth propaganda."

The 79-year-old doesn't mind that it's currently getting a little warmer again.

“Even a little rain doesn't do any harm.

It solidifies the snow, the trail freezes at night - I'm optimistic that it will be even better after the next cold snap, ”says the Altschützen deputy head.

Cross-country skiers wish: please do not trample the trails

Cross-country skiing is also possible elsewhere in the district - but not on machine-groomed trails.

In the past, they officially prepared in the golf park in Aschheim and on the golf range in Kirchstockach near Brunnthal, but the snowmobiles are currently at a standstill.

“We don't track in Corona times,” says the Brunnthal golf range.

Winter sports at home put a smile on many faces: "Endurance sports with a Corona distance in nature - there is hardly anything healthier in these times," says the married couple Christa and Karl-Heinz Riedle in Höhenkirchen.

Like everywhere else, besides winter weather, they have one main wish: that walkers please don't trample the painstakingly created trails.

Where cross-country skiing is possible everywhere in the district

Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn:

The classically groomed trail in Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn is around 18 kilometers.

It is tracked from Friedrich-Bergius-Straße, where you can also park.

The trail turns several loops: two smaller ones in the north of the community, on both sides of the railway line between the Wächterhof station and the local area, and a large one in the south-east of Siegertsbrunn at the pilgrimage church of St. Leonhard (entry possible there too)

Baierbrunn:

There and back almost eight kilometers come together on the cross-country ski run in the west of Baierbrunn, a cross-country ski run is available on the Altschützen website.

There are three entry points: at Aldi in Schorner Strasse, at the Catholic parish church of St. Peter and Paul or behind the Schulweg level crossing in Buchenhain.

Deisenhofen - Sauerlach:

It's 15 kilometers along the railroad tracks.

Good starting points are either in Sauerlacher Straße in Deisenhofen or at the north-western end of Sauerlach.

Unterhaching - Neubiberg:

Along the two and a half kilometers long former airport runway, cross-country skiers can trace their own trails. When there is little but hard snow, the extensive areas in the Hachinger Tal landscape park are also suitable for skating.

Entry at Friedhofshügel in Neubiberg or at Biberger Straße in Unterhaching.
